Kora Malecek Breaks State Course Record With 17:44 For D1 Title By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor On a cool, damp day with snowflakes in the air, Onalaska's Kora Malecek ran 17:44.6 and won the Division I girls state final by 30 seconds. Malecek's time is the fastest recorded at the Wisconsin state meet since girls started running 5,000 meters in 2014. Middleton outlasted Stevens Point to win the boys team championship, 104-116. Middleton finished second to Neenah in 2018 by 10 ponits. This time, a 19-second compression and five scorers finishing between 22nd and 44th got the job done. Muskego put three girls into the top 14 and retained the team title with 72 points. Sophomore Roisin Willis, the New Balance Nationals Indoor 800-meter champion, finished third behind Malecek and Lauren Pansegrau of Middleton. Senior Jake Krause of Hortonville ran 15:34.2 to take the boys individual title after placing 63rd in the state meet last year. Valders defended its D2 boys title with 78 points, while senior Lucas Florsheim of Shorewood ran 15:58.8 to win the race.
